Cupping night at Sens: taste coffee side by side

Intro

Some coffees grab you with sweetness. Others with bright acidity, florals, or a clean finish that lingers. A cupping is the simplest way to understand why—because you taste multiple coffees under the same conditions, back-to-back.

Cupping night at Sens is designed for anyone who enjoys coffee and wants a clearer sense of what they’re tasting. You don’t need experience or the “right vocabulary.” You just need curiosity.

What a cupping actually is

Cupping is a standard tasting method used across the coffee world. We grind a set of coffees, pour hot water directly over the grounds, and let them steep. After a few minutes, we break the crust, skim the surface, and taste.

Because every coffee is brewed the same way, differences become obvious. You’ll notice how one coffee feels juicy and bright, while another tastes deeper and more chocolatey. The goal isn’t to “pick a winner.” It’s to learn what you like and why.

What you’ll taste

Each cupping includes a small lineup that highlights contrast. For example:

  • a washed coffee with clean, tea-like clarity

  • a natural coffee with fruit-forward sweetness

  • a more classic profile with caramel and cocoa notes

We’ll guide you through what to pay attention to—aroma, sweetness, acidity, mouthfeel, and finish—then open it up for discussion. You’ll be surprised how quickly your palate starts connecting the dots.

How the session flows

We keep the format relaxed and unhurried:

  1. quick intro to the coffees and why we chose them

  2. aroma and first impressions

  3. tasting rounds (we’ll explain how to slurp and why it helps)

  4. notes and comparisons

  5. a final “favorites” round, just for fun

You can participate as much or as little as you want. Listening counts too.

What you’ll leave with

By the end of the night, you’ll have a stronger sense of:

  • which flavor profiles you naturally prefer

  • how processing changes taste (washed vs natural, etc.)

  • why “acidic” can mean citrus, berries, or even sparkling freshness

  • how to order coffee with more confidence

Most of all, you’ll leave with a simple skill: noticing what’s in the cup without overthinking it.

Seats and booking

We keep groups small so everyone can taste comfortably and ask questions.
Seats are limited. If you’re joining with friends, book together.

If you’ve been curious about specialty coffee but didn’t know where to start, this is the best place.
